With all its excess and empty promises, we still can't look away from Hollywood's “Dream Factory.” In Double Feature, Marco Brambilla challenges our fascination with the cult of glamour and forces us to reckon with its inescapable presence in our lives.

Reviving the nostalgic tradition of screening two films back-to-back, Double Feature showcases Brambilla’s first and last work in his Megaplex series: Civilization (2008) and Heaven’s Gate (2022). Civilization takes you on a psychedelic journey from hell to heaven, in which iconic moments of cinematic history are collaged together. Hyper-realistic clouds, meadows and burning cityscapes form a backdrop to humanity’s frenzied production and consumption of media.

Heaven's Gate delves into seven levels of purgatory, each depicted as a fantastical landscape of looping samples from Hollywood’s Golden Age, with references to gaming, news, cinema and reality TV.

With Brambilla’s large-scale video montages, you are given a window to reflect on and challenge your own ideals and conventions.

CREDITSThe exhibition is organized by Johan Vikner (Global Director of Exhibitions at Fotografiska) and Thomas Schäfer (Exhibitions Manager at Fotografiska Berlin).
