An American Dynasty in Europe: The Cellar of the Estate of Antal Post de BekessyAntal Post de Bekessy (1943-2015), a great lover of French Grands Crus, was the grandson of Marjorie Merriweather Post (1887-1973), the legendary American socialite, collector and heiress, and the son of Eleanor Post Close (1909-2006), a refined and discerning collector who settled in Europe after the Second World War. In their European residences, Eleanor Post Close and later Antal Post de Bekessy held lavish receptions where the greatest wines were served to French aristocrats, American compatriots, art-lovers and connoisseurs. For nearly three centuries, wines have been stored in the family’s illustrious and historic 18th-century home near Paris, a ‘pavillon’ or ‘summer château’ which belonged to the Comte d’Artois, later Charles X, the last Bourbon King of France. The collection presents a selection of Bordeaux from sought after vintages from 1940 to 2011 and features First Growths alongside top Right Bank wines, while an array of Burgundy is interspersed with vintages of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Rhône, Alsace and Champagne add to the collection’s appeal.
