Our display of a photographic tapestry and three photogravures relates to Hartt’s ongoing project The Histories that he currently exhibits at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. The Histories reflects on cultural pasts once removed, on the history of empire, postcolonial identity formation, and the roles of paining and music at the intersections of race and geography.
