Barolo, 26 October 2023 - Italian radical design brand Meritalia presents one of its most iconic pieces, La Michetta, originally designed by Gaetano Pesce in 2005.

In Milan, the michetta is the daily bread. It Is the smell of the bakery down the street, the taste of being together, for no particular reason other than the desire to share a moment. It is the most recognizable shape - a sort of rose, with petals made of flour and yeast - yet never the same, irregular according to how the hands shaped it. What do these concepts become, when taken up by Meritalia and Gaetano Pesce, the most radical of the radicals? They start getting mixed, kneaded and finally churned out and into out-of-the-ordinary padded items, fragrant like fresh loaves of bread.

A sofa designed to redefine everyday life: La Michetta by Meritalia is a delight for the eyes, satiated on the irregular shapes of each module, the colours and materials available, foretasting the pleasure of sitting on it.

A sofa that does not conform to a predetermined style, not conceived as a mere piece of furniture but as the multifaceted protagonist of the reinvention of domesticity. An object made up of many objects: eclectic modules to be continuously played with and reorganised. Gaetano Pesce conceives La Michetta as a game between the mind that designed it, the hands that made it, and the creativity of those who chose it.

The capitonné rises randomly, at times plunging and at times levitating, in contrast with the regularity of each rectangular or cubic module with wooden structure. The buttons mark the hollows of the surface and punctuate it, outlining a three-dimensional and irregular pattern that invites one to explore the comfort of the seat.

Limitless, even in its uses. La Michetta is for sitting down, for relaxing. Indeed, the very meaning of sitting down and relaxing is reconsidered, depending on whether the module is horizontal or vertical, if used as seat or backrest or armrest, single or multiple. La Michetta evokes conviviality, a shared experience-turned-sofa: it takes back the centre of the room, and attracts anyone who wants to get carried away by its force of gravity, and also fascinates those who prefer to constantly explore. The modules can be continuously rearranged, allowing various configurations, reactivating and renewing the most diverse spaces. Whether placed in an intimate living room at home or selected to liven up a representative room, La Michetta assures to welcome and amaze.
